The economy may be in the way of recovery, and if you’re looking for a new job, or your company is hunting for a talent and willing to employ the social media tool to recruit the best and brightest talent, then TwitHire might be a site that you should check out for.

TwitHire, as the name implies, is a free job listing service for Twitter. It’s akin to any other job board on the Web, but only featuring job related URL’s for a variety of positions mainly the design and programming jobs via the tweets. Take a closer look of the job postings, each job posting are split up in the nice manner by TwitHire, which includes the tweeter’s username, job URL, location and date of posting.

For the employers/recruiters, to post a job tweet on TwitHire is very easy. There is a “New Job” page where you can fill up the job details in order to generate the job tweet and tweet key, and then posting the job tweet with a reply to @TwitHire, and it’s done. On the other end, for the job seekers that finding the design and programming jobs, TwitHire definitely is another site to help you in your job search if you’ve been laid off, or you’re in the middle of finding your next job.

JoobsBox

Starting an online job board seems to be a good idea to monetize on the Web, though it’s not easy to find a niche for the field you’re targeting at if you planned to start a job board. For instance, if you’re looking forward to start a tech job board, or job board for freelancers, part-timers, you might come across a lot of the similar one in your home country. From a business perspective, that’s probably what the developers around the world were thinking when they developed the job board scripts which they can charge on a per-domain basis, so as far as the software-end is concerned, it’s hardly to find any of the good yet open source job board scripts out there.

Let’s say you want to start a job board and you do not want the hassle to develop your own by programming it or outsource it to the software house, you can now turn to an open source, and light-weight piece of job board script called JoobsBox.

JoobsBox, similar like another popular job board script Jobberbase, is built using PHP/MySQL. Currently, JoobsBox is still in Alpha stage, but includes features such as RSS feed integration on each category of job categories, plugin system that make it possible to extend the application easily, custom templates, iPhone ready and the availability of an admin panel. However, the posting of job opening is rather basic right now, employers will not need to register an account in order to post the job details to the job board. In other words, there is no any connection in between job seekers and employers where they can looking for each other. But JoobsBox is very easy to use as you can perform the installation in a 3-Step process, and it’s done.

In fact, this job board script is built to be light-weight, so you won’t find employer accounts, payment integration or resumes management. However, the aforesaid features is told to be developed in the upcoming release on its official blog.

Buddingup

I’ve been playing around with some job board demo software recently. Many are built using PHP/MySQL, with pricing range from $40 – above $350, though there are free scripts available, only if you’re luckily enough to scour for it on the Web.

With the offer of many job scripts, one can pay, download and install the job scripts on the Web site, blog and the full features job board will be up and running instantly. But if you’re looking to create a job board, and have limited budget for the project, you can take a look at this great example, i.e. Buddingup.

Buddingup is a job site that rolled out its job features with a back-end WordPress engine, a forum set up by using Simple Machines as well as the job board that powered by Simply Hired’s Job-A-Matic. The front page is amazingly sophisticated with several contents, but the contents are split up in a nice manner. You can find several job related information on the site such as career pages, job interview video analysis, indeed’s search function and etc. Besides, Buddingup also provided a PDF copy of “Buddingup’s Job Search Optimization Starter Manual”; a well-written job application tips purposely designed to help job seekers to optimize their profiles on Buddingup. For the job seekers, perhaps they also want a robust set of tools like resume and cover letter templates, and Buddingup also provided a URL link in which they can download the template from Microsoft Office Online.

In fact, Buddingup is built to be a job information site for students, new graduates, interns and co-ops from colleges and universities, though I still feel it’s still very much in its beginning stages. At present, Buddingup don’t have any job seeker’s area or employer’s area whereby job seekers can submit their resumes or manage their job alerts and employers can sign-up and browse job seeker’s resumes. However, it might be a great example for one to get a job site up and running if he/she know how to tweak the aforesaid WordPress, Simply Hired and Simple Machines forum software package.

CoNotes

The impact of current economic meltdown has cost million of workers lost their jobs. Many have still questioning that the worst of this financial crisis is yet to come. For the job seekers, though they still can find a wealth of job postings on the Web, but at this time, any job sites that listed numerous job listings should be paid close attention by them, as a reality check, any neglect this imperative will have to pay the price.

For the job postings that are centered to the technical side, there is a site called CoNotes that focusing heavily on matching job seekers and cool startups. I came across this job site via an email from this company itself in last year. It is a job site which is well connects startups with talented and passionate people. On the site, you can browse the jobs, and companies by location or by industry. Most of the job listings are US-based, makes me think that in such a financial crisis, many American companies are still suffering a shortage of engineering talent. Maybe this is cyclical, but the job listings posted on CoNotes mean that if you are really good, then you are worth to be fighting for in the job market.

For the company you would like to apply for a job, you can add it as favorite, or write a question as well as comment on it. Each company with a profile on CoNotes will have its own job vacancy section, contact information, and flexibility can be found as to users can add a description tag to the profile of the company. In addition to looking for jobs from the companies, you can run a simple search via keyword, type of job or occupation for the jobs you want to apply. Perhaps you found a job that you’re interested with, you also can connect to the people that working at that particular company by using the integrated feature rendered by LinkedIn. With LinkedIn, you can access to these people, asking questions about the company, culture or the job vacancy even before you submit your resume to them. On the other end, there is a News column, which is listed all the current news feed that are related to the companies listed on the site.

A great feature I like about CoNotes is that it has a job recommendation engine that works on every user’s profile. This engine is aims to be simplified the process of job finding on the site by providing three (3) suggested companies based upon your own personal profile. Initially, after you signing for CoNotes, it will instantly suggest you three (3) companies, probably based upon your years of working experience and your current work position so that you can focus on these three and looking for the positions they have opened. The longer you’re on the site, and based on your recently viewed jobs, the engine will know you better and will thus pull another three (3) different companies that are more suitably for your skill sets.

Meanwhile, CoNotes has started to provides internship listings for students as a completely free of charge to the potential employers in last month. Overall, I believe that CoNotes is a great platform for job seekers and potential employers (cool startups) to set up a profile there so that they can find a perfect match each other.

Update: This site is now powered by Simply Hired.
