GetSimple

CMS, or content management system is the most popular and yet easiest way to make a content Web site up and running, all we need to do is to upload and configure the source files to the hosting server. However, selecting the right CMS for the use of content driven site and make the real comparison between different CMS available on the Web, it is not easy. Thus, it’s not surprise that there are bunch of articles entitled from “Joomla vs Drupal?” “Joomla vs Drupal vs PHPnuke?” till “CMS made simple vs Drupal?” with the purpose of advising people in choosing the right CMS.

Still, there is a new entrant entering into this CMS space that called GetSimple. As the name suggests, GetSimple could be one of the simple CMS based on the fact that it is an XML based and in other words, it doesn’t need a database in order to run it. It is lightweight, open source, with the source files written in PHP and will help you build a small Web site in less than an hour.

Currently, GetSimple installation files come with two (2) themes, the Default_Simple theme and Cardinal theme. It is also equipped with some basic features such as “undo” as well as backup. Although it is not an ideal tool for developing large dynamic community Web sites, but for those who are in need of developing a small Web site, GetSimple offers an alternative to the popular CMS such as Drupal or Joomla.

DailyPerfect

DailyPerfect, a decent Web app that known as the inventor of the predictive content personalization technology, aims to be a news aggregator that know what you like to read.

Well, I really do not know how accurate when they collecting your reading habit, but they managed to generate a reading list of stories that matter the most to you. In addition, DailyPerfect comes with a slew of behavioral targeting features. Other than delivering the news stories, they also know the title of the books that you like. The list catalog of books recommended by DailyPerfect are not necessarily the wishlist of the books you want, but if you click on any title, it will redirect you to Amazon and DailyPerfect presumably makes the affiliate revenue if you complete the buy.

Some said that algorithms weren’t always right at knowing and aggregating the news for you, but DailyPerfect want to take up the challenges by offering the daily news profile for you. In many senses, it’s like you do not need to search on any search engine and find content on the Web, DailyPerfect will keep track of your interests and the news feed will be delivered to your profile. Although everything seemed to be automated, but you can fine tune the news feed you want to read by moving the slider under the “News diversity” option as well as thumb-up or collapse the topics, people, websites appeared on the top of the page.

A Tiny Thread

Considering that threaded conversations is one of the features that will make Twitter more useful in terms of view or opinion sharing, a tiny thread has been created in order to do any tweet threading on Twitter.

To use a tiny thread is very easy, you simply need to login by using your Twitter credential, and a tiny thread will allow you to start a thread on whatsoever topic or you can add your latest update on the existing threads. Currently, few threads have caught my eye such as “Twitter or Facebook?“, and “Python or Ruby?” since I am inclined to technology topics. But you always have the flexibility to start a thread on any topic and any language and I am unsurprised to learn today that someone in this planet will come after your thread.

Besides, a tiny thread does a good job on threading conversations and the update you add on any existing thread will also be shown on your Twitter account.

Cardxc

Want to do business online or offline, anyway you need a business card, whether or not is it a virtual business card, or you go to the printing shop and ask someone to do it for you. But if you want to DIY the business card, there’s a Web service called Cardxc in which you can play around with the templates available and construct the virtual business card yourself.

At first glance, Cardxc is essentially a business card generator. It helps users to create and share their business cards that contain their basic info without much hassle. There’s no doubt that users do not need to master the skill of Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw and they can start to create the business cards themselves using the basic layout or the available templates on the site.

For those who have created the business card before, they know how difficult it is in creating the card at the first time, now they don’t need to know the default size of a business card, i.e. 8.7cm x 5cm specifically, all they need to do is to play around with the font size, frame, shape, and other functionality, and the end result will be a beautiful and yet shareable (embed, export to vCard format or print) virtual business card.

LongURL

With the huge popularity of Twitter and its 140 character limit, the fact that url shortening services also grow exponentially in the same time. Although the existence of this kind of url shortening services has once sparked a debate in the tech community, but the usefulness of making lengthy links become more shareable are actual good in someway for the Web.

In the past, some have doubt that if we aren’t careful in occasion, we might end up clicking the wrong link which redirect us to bogus sites and pick up malware along the way. Perhaps, you’ve heard of the best defense to avoid clicking the links from the unknown users (assuming you want to read an article), please check where the link will take you to.

Now, there’s a new Web service which allows you to check the link, especially for the shortened link, where it will go from here. LongURL, as the name suggests, will expand the URL link and shows you the detail of its redirect. In this way, it actually safeguard and keep you awake before the clicking of wrong link taking in place. For some instances, if you aren’t 100% sure whether or not you want to click the link, you can copy and paste the shortened link on LongURL and take a closer look after the expanding since LongURL also reveals the conversations, if any that surrounding that URL, in addition to the meta tag of that particular redirect.

Tweetzi

For those who love to use Twitter, and will run the queries for the amazing real-time tweets on Twitter, here’s a new Twitter search service that you might want to check out. Tweetzi, another Twitter search application helps you search the tweets for the keywords you’ve entered on its search bar.

As you enter any keyword on Tweetzi, the typical results will show the tweeter’s avatar, a link to the original tweet, the date and time of posting the tweet as well as whom is the user, his / her Twitter username. One feature that I like, is the flexibility to filter the results based on several search preferences. I can personalize the results by using different symbols that act as filters. In these instances, I can filter the results that only show tweets with URL links, or search the tweets containing the hashtag, or etc.

I also like the the play / pause feature whereby I can run or stop the real-time tweets searching on Tweetzi. Overall, it is a well-developed application.
